Once your blog starts to get a bit of traffic, you might get some nasty blog comments. If you are a crier, like me, this might devastate you. Don’t let it.
Depending on the content of your blog, you might get nasty comments right away. If you post about controversial topics, you are probably already prepared for a debate.
Debating is one thing, but negative comments just for the sake of being nasty is another. After my first mean blog comment, I seriously wanted to delete all of my blogs.
Ridiculous I know, but I can be
a tad on the sensitive side an insecure, emotional wreck at times.
How to Handle Mean Comments Online
Ignore – Delete. Ignore. Move on. Brush it off and don’t give it another thought.
Rejoice – That’s right. Once you start getting hateful comments and “trolls”, it means you must be pretty popular.
Be Kind – Respond to their hate with kindness. Fight the dark with the light. Clearly they need some love in their life.
Laugh – Laugh them off. Forward them to a friend that you know will laugh with you. Other bloggers can all relate and will definitely make you feel better about it.
Take Note – If it’s your loyal readers leaving nasty blog comments, you might want to take that into consideration. If the comments are constructive criticism, they might be something to give another look.
Once I posted a rather inappropriate joke to my family friendly blog. Well, I should have realized that might offend a few people since the content was completely off base from what I normally post.
Block – If you have a persistent mean commenter you can block their IP address.
Debate – Like I said above, if your content is welcoming a debate, then debate away. If all parties can do so in a factual and level-headed way, a little healthy debate can be good for the soul!
No matter how your nasty blog comments come about just remember that most bloggers get them.
Don’t let them drag you down or stop you from being yourself.
Just remember this quote:
If everyone likes you, you must be doing something wrong.Bette Davis
